Why Reversing Babel?
At the tower of Babel, the people of the earth tried to take advantage of their common language to glorify themselves. As a result, God confused their languages and scattered them across the earth. Today there are approximately 7,000 languages in the world, each one with a unique people and culture. While different languages can divide us, Revelation 7 shows a vision of every nation, language and people standing together and praising God. Through multiple languages, nations, and cultures coming together in unity for worship, God receives even more glory. He is reversing what happened at Babel by drawing all people to Himself.
My work as a linguist allows me to witness how God is working through languages across the globe. Language is a frequent topic of this blog, since I believe the diversity, beauty, and order of languages help us to understand more of who God is.
